JUMP-OFF TRAIL. Leaves Boulevard Trail ( see below) 0.1 mile north of AT. Leads right 0.8 mile to the Jump-Off, offering spectacular view into valleys of Porter Creek watershed.

(THE BOULEVARD TRAIL: drive to Newfound Gap and hike east on the Appalachian Trail 2.7 miles.)

 


 

 

The Jump Off side trail is a promontory of Mount Kephart, and is named The Jump Off because of the steep 1,000 foot cliff below it. Look southeast to Charlies Bunion and the Sawteeth and eastward to Mt. Guyot. look down the great cliff you stand on and follow the valley of Porters Creek to Greenbrier.

Roundtrip hiking distance is 6.8 miles. This route may be very icy in cold weather.
