From Alum Cave, continue uphill along the bluffs and into the woods along the trail carved into the bluff's edge.

The trail to the top of Mr. LeConte is steep with narrow footing. Here are some pictures of this part of the trail.

You'll approach the summit of Mt. LeConte by circling beneathe Cliff Tops, the western perch from which overnighters at LeConte Lodge and the shelter traditionally watch the sunset.

The path turns into "hobbit-land" on its final
approach to the lodge.
